Pre-Business / Information Technology

The Pre–Business IT Academy provides an educational setting dedicated to the development of academic, social, and creative skills with the goal of creating responsible citizens. Students are introduced to the field of business and related careers through the use of information technology. Students participate in the co– curricular student organization, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), where they may earn certificates and awards for their student portfolios as well as earn an Internet Business Associate Certificate in their final year at the Pre–Business IT Academy.

  • Have A Better Understanding Of American Business Enterprises

Course Sequencing

6th Grade

Students will enroll in Information and Communications Technology III

The topics include:

  • Digital tools
  • Internet communications / Web development
  • Cybersecurity
  • Project-based learning approach
  • Entrepreneurship education and Financial literacy concepts
  • Multimedia

7th Grade

Students will receive a comprehensive outline of the foundational knowledge and skills related to software and web development in the information technology industry including HTML and CSS programming
languages in the Digital
Discoveries class while gaining their Information Technology Specialist (ITS) industry certification.

The topics include:

  • HTML Fundamentals
  • CSS Fundamentals
  • Document Structure using HTML
  • Multimedia Presentation using HTML
  • Webpage Styling using CSS

8th Grade

Students will be ready for
Advanced IT where the goal is to obtain their second industry certification in HTML, CSS and Javascript.

The topics include:

  • Social networking - wikis, folksonomies, Webcasting, blogging and podcasting
  • Online security and safety practices
  • Cloud computing and mobile devices
  • Web conferencing software
  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Math Progression

  • Accelerated 6th Grade Math
  • Accelerated 7th Grade Math or Algebra 1 Honors
  • Algebra 1 Honors or Geometry Honors
